Islamic Society of Manly Warringah manages the only masjid (mosque) in Sydney Northern Beaches district. Dee Why is part of northern coastal suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales – Australia, located near the coast of the Pacific Ocean.

It all started by some muslim families after the surge of migration from Indonesia in the late 80s. Unfortunately at the time, there was no local masjid. The community has to rent a church hall for weekly Friday prayer while other Islamic activities were regularly held house to house.

When Uniting Church of Australia put their church on the market, the community took that opportunity and managed to gather enough cash funds to buy the premises in 1989

The original church

The original building was used for several years until the late 90s when the old structure was demolished to increase the capacity. The current one was completed in the early 2000s.
